EPIC Technologies Attains ISO/TS16949:2002 Certification

Corporate Quality Management System Receives Significant Automotive Certification

Rochester Hills, MI — October 20, 2003 – Electronic Product Integration Corporation (EPIC Technologies) announced today that all of its facilities have attained ISO/TS16949:2002 certification. The certification of EPIC’s quality management system in Norwalk, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; and Juarez, Mexico means that all sites meet the requirements automobile manufacturers mandate in North America, Europe and Asia. EPIC has maintained ISO-9002:1994 and QS9000 certifications for several years. The ISO/TS16949:2002 certification will combine requirements for ISO-9001:2000 as well as automotive requirements in the United States and Europe that were previously separate. The new standard is widely used on a global basis for automotive quality systems. Its requirements include process improvement, customer satisfaction measurements and employee motivation.

EPIC Technologies’ Director of Quality Hilario Apodaca said, “The employees in Norwalk, El Paso and Juarez put in a lot of hours over the past three months to help EPIC achieve this key certification. The transition was a big challenge, but we now have a standardized quality management system at EPIC. Customers will find the same first class quality at all locations.”

Apodaca continued, “We have implemented a virtual centralized database of EPIC’s procedures and work instructions. Employees are able to use the company’s intranet to pull up the correct version of a procedure in any facility. Production workers currently can use a station on the floor to quickly and efficiently find the instructions they need to perform their jobs.”

EPIC Technologies’ Vice President of Operations Jochen Lipp said, “EPIC is one of the first electronic manufacturing service providers in the world to achieve this important certification. This certification is another demonstration of our commitment to provide world class quality to our customers.”

EPIC’s Quality Department will continue its innovative advancements and continual improvement projects including the installation of touch screens at production workstations to expedite employees’ inquiries. While some procedures are currently in English and Spanish, the company is also determined to have its entire quality management system available in both languages.

EPIC is a privately held, full-service independent provider of customized electronics manufacturing services with headquarters in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The company operates two manufacturing facilities – EPIC Technologies, in Norwalk, Ohio and in Juarez, Mexico. Services include complex printed circuit board assembly using surface mount technology (SMT) and pin through-hole (PTH) interconnection technologies.
