EPIC Technologies Celebrates a Successful First Year in Mexico

Juarez, Mexico – September 9, 2003 – Electronic Product Integration Corporation (EPI) marked its first year in operation in Juarez, Mexico this summer. The Mexican plant provides printed circuit board assembly and box build services to customers in the industrial, automotive and medical sectors.

The company has seen a lot accomplished in a short time since the start-up of EPIC Technologies – Juarez Operations in July 2002. The 70,000 square foot facility has 7 customers, and has the flexibility of adding new assemblies from existing and new partners in less than a week. A customer in the flow control industry started with one assembly at the Juarez plant, and has since moved work from China to the Mexican plant. In fact, this is one of two customers who have moved work to EPIC’s Juarez facility from China.

In July, EPIC held a dinner for its 260 employees in Mexico. Fifty-seven workers were recognized for their first year of employment, starting when the doors opened at the plant. Employment has more than doubled in Juarez during its first year of operation.

EPIC Technologies’ Vice President of Operations Jochen Lipp said, “We are proud of all of our employees in Juarez for their dedication in working what is now over 400 days without an accident. They have helped us achieve a great deal in one short year.”

The Mayor of Juarez, Jesus Alfredo Delgado Munoz, visited EPIC’s facility to congratulate the company and its employees for their first successful year of manufacturing. The plant is located in the Rio Bravo Industrial Park, just over the Zaragoza Bridge to El Paso, Texas. El Paso is Juarez’s sister city, and EPIC has a logistics center located there, which provides its Mexican facility with raw material and finished goods warehousing and distribution services. The arrangement allows flexibility in Juarez to use EPIC’s proven finished goods replenishment methods and level load signaling that is utilized in its Norwalk, Ohio plant.

In the year that EPIC has operated its Mexican facility, the plant has received several certifications important to the electronics manufacturing sector. QS-9000 registration is for the automotive industry; and EPIC is currently updating its procedures to TS-16949 certification, to include North American and European automotive requirements. EPIC’s Juarez facility is also an FDA registered contract electronics manufacturer of medical devices, and its quality management system is registered to the ISO-9002 standard.

EPI is a privately held, full-service independent provider of customized electronics manufacturing services with headquarters in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The company operates two manufacturing facilities – EPIC Technologies, in Norwalk, Ohio and in Juarez, Mexico. Services include complex printed circuit board assembly using surface mount technology (SMT) and pin through-hole (PTH) interconnection technologies.
